HOLLYWOOD SAG-AFTRA STRIKE FREEZES BUSINESS STREAMS.

Written by on July 31, 2023

Members of the Writers Guild of America have been striking for nearly three months and this has had a severe impact on so many projects including the Emmy Awards and ongoing filming of current movies.

The parties on strike are demanding for better pay and protection against AI. These however are not the only demands.  When the performers got into strike two weeks ago, some local businesses started to feel the pinch of inactive business from Hollywood.

One of the writers April Rock said “I’m at the level of just trying not to think about it, you know? I’m afraid to check the bank account.”

Viola Davis too announced that she has taken a break from “G20” in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA strike despite approval of production waiver.

The Emmy Awards were also postponed due to the ongoing strike. The organizers believe that the actors and actresses will not be able to attend as the strikes are ongoing. A new date has not yet been set. The plans might resume in January once the parties in this strike successfully resolve their issues.

Nominations for the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced just before talks between studios and SAG-AFTRA failed.

It is anticipated that these strikes will affect the industry greatly right from the projects ongoing to the rest of the business affiliates that earn from Hollywood.
