Twitter Blue Rolls Out Globally, Legacy Verified Marks to Be Removed From April 1

Written by on March 28, 2023

As part of its transition to a system where only paid customers and members of designated organizations have that status, Twitter will start removing so-called legacy verified marks from user accounts next week.

The company revealed in a tweet on Thursday that the elimination of legacy verification will begin on April 1. It’s one of the first changes to the company’s policies that owner Elon Musk has made public. Shortly after assuming leadership late last year, he dubbed the present program “corrupt.”

The Twitter Blue subscription service, which Musk initially priced at $8 per month and now touts as the best way to use and progress the site, has become a significant component of the billionaire’s plans for Twitter. Musk said that increasing the number of paying members would also aid in resolving Twitter’s bot problem.

Several public leaders and journalists are among those designated as verified without paying the fee.
