FEMINISM & THE PATRIACHY AT WAR.

In recent times, there has been a notable shift in the discourse surrounding gender roles within society. The entirety of the 20th century saw a concerted effort to empower women and provide them with platforms for growth and opportunity. This movement arose from the need to support women in raising their children independently, particularly in the aftermath of two devastating world wars—WWI and WWII—which claimed the lives of countless men who were on the front lines defending their countries.
The aftermath of these wars gave rise to a society of single mothers who faced significant challenges as they struggled to provide for and raise their children amid poverty and adversity. With a pressing need for financial stability, many women ventured into the workforce and entrepreneurship, demonstrating their resilience and resourcefulness. Those who succeeded in business proved that women could excel in leadership and management roles, leading to a gradual shift in gender norms and expectations.
Meanwhile, the sons of these absent fathers grew up without male role models, witnessing their mothers’ strength and independence firsthand. This upbringing instilled in them the belief that women were capable of handling any challenge on their own, leading to a generation of men who struggled with selflessness in their relationships with women.
Concurrently, young girls were raised in environments where female strength and independence were celebrated, further reinforcing the notion that women could thrive without relying on men. This dynamic created a sense of intimidation among men, resulting in a reversal of traditional gender roles.
A recent viral incident on Instagram highlighted this shift, as a young woman expressed her support for patriarchy and traditional gender roles. Her stance garnered attention precisely because it diverged from the prevailing narrative of female empowerment and independence.
This incident sparked discussions about the contributions women bring to relationships and households, prompting many women to pursue careers and professional success to prove their worth. However, some women have begun to question the necessity of this pressure to prove themselves, particularly as they approach their 30s and 40s.
As women grapple with societal expectations and the desire for independence, tensions between feminism and patriarchy continue to simmer. While some women reject traditional gender roles and advocate for gender equality, others find themselves torn between their aspirations and the realities of family life.
Ultimately, the ongoing battle between feminism and patriarchy underscores the complexities of gender dynamics in contemporary society. As individuals navigate their roles and relationships, the quest for equality and understanding remains ever-present, shaping the fabric of our communities and institutions.
