In the busy brewing entertainment industry of Uganda grew an artiste who managed to capture the hearts of many in a very short time when she decided to release music with a fresh touch Azawi. Ever since releasing her first song which turned out to become a banger “Quinamino” she has never topped releasing bangers.
Azawi managed to join the NRG AM Show yesterday at Boss Burger in Kampala and she shared a lot about how intimate this new album was for her. She said for the very first time, in her life, she allowed her self to be vulnerable as a woman in the art industry.
She mentioned she was going through a phase creative often go through called the creative block when one feels they have exhausted their creative ideas and they can’t seem to release any new or fresh ideas. She said she took a very long time experiencing this and yet her market was demanding and to top it all, other creatives were coming up and staying in this phase would be detrimental to her career.
“I was advised by someone to be young again and do the things I used to do before I became the famous Azawi and when I did that, I started picking interest and inspiration which birthed ‘Sankofa” she said. After going through this process and creating this album, I named it Sankofa which means “Go back and get it”
Azawi has been the top chat on tabloids and podcasts and many can’t seem to have enough of the production and the sound. The most interesting bit is the consistency Azawi has carried through out her entire career. She has embraced Africanism through fashion, the sound and the videos. And this is what has made her stand out and keep a special place in the hearts of fans.
She also mentioned how she has gotten to a place of grace in her life. “I am happier in my life today than I have ever been in my life, not only because I released a successful album but because I have had an opportunity to embrace myself and my craft as unique as it is with every flaw and every good thing about Azawi.
