GOVERNMENT OF UGANDA SUSPENDS PROB INTO DIGITAL NUMBER PLATES

After creating a lot of mixed opinion, Government of Uganda decided to suspend the Prob oof Digital Number plates. This came after the Government officials discovered that in order of this innovation to work, a lot of security information in the department of Police would be compromised because the company that had been contracted to work on this was from Russia.

 

MP Nakawa Division Ronald Balimwezo said in an interview that he received a request from the Minister of Security for some time to look into the matter. All the investigations were put on hold as well.

According to the plan, car owners were to pay Shs 735,000 for digital number plates which most Ugandans were developing negative response towards this fee, saying it is quite expensive too to afford.

The Minister of Internal Affairs Kahinda Otafire raised a number of red flags concerning this prob on Tuesday. Gen. Otafire informed the committee that he wrote to the President over the matter and in the letter, he was warning the President not to sideline the current manufacturer of numberplates however, he claims that the President did not receive the letter.

Currently the matter is still under study to but as of now, operations that had began concerning this project have been put on hold.
