SANTRINA NZINZA REACHES OUT TO TEENAGE GIRLS IN HER VILLAGE COMMUNITY.

“I used to buy jewelry but the person I used to buy it from used not to create the explicit designs that I wanted even when I explained to her she would try but she would not portray the exact Idea. When I lost my job, I dived into it but I basically did it for myself. And each time I designed a piece, people would love my jewelry and ask me to make them some jewelry.”Santrina

Santa the Jeweler & radio host on NRG made time to reach out to a community and donated some sanitary towels to the girls in the community there.

She basically reached out to her workmates and friends and decided to design some jewelry in exchange for support financially to buy the sanitary towels. The NRG Radio UG team supported her and gave her all kinds of support and by the end of the week she had pads of over 80 girls.

She felt a little compassionate when she visited her mother in the village where she supports teenage girls and carries out adolescence awareness, she noticed that girls really struggle with menstrual hygiene and the fact that the sanitary pads cost a price a teenage girl in the village cannot necessarily afford every month, she decided to start her campaign.

“Menstruation is really something every woman around the world goes through but the fact that there is a price to the basic need of menstrual hygiene makes me wonder how a girl in the village who has no job is even able to afford a pack every month” she said.

She also shared that she did not expect the girls to be as excited but their reaction is what made her realize that however small a gesture is, it means a lot to someone who needs whatever you are trying to offer them.
