MAUTO, now SPIRO is the leading electric motorbike and battery-swapping service in Africa with operations across the entire continent. Founded in 2019 in India, Spiro aims to provide sustainable automobiles that reduce C02 emissions across the entire globe.
The new landmark deal signed with the Ugandan government is the first between a green eco company and an African government. The partnership will ensure the deployment of over 140,000 electric motorbikes as well as 3000 swapping and charging stations. Not only this, but it will also create over 9000 new jobs in the country.
This comes at a time when the Ugandan government is prioritizing the change from fossil fuels to electric vehicles.
In accordance with Uganda’s goals of being one of the continent’s leaders in sustainable electric transportation, these electric motorbikes are being introduced along with a dependable charging and battery-swapping network.
Shegun Adjadi Bakari, CEO of SPIRO, said in a statement, “In the coming weeks, we will launch our program to replace traditional motorbikes with electric motorbikes, as we are already doing in Benin, Togo, and Rwanda. Ugandan drivers will be able to hand in their old motorbikes and leave with one of our new electric models. This is a first in Africa.”
