SPOTIFY REMOVES BOLLYWOOD SONGS IN LICENSING DISPUTE

The Swedish music streaming site is currently enemy number one in India at the moment after it removed a catalog of Bollywood songs from its distributor, Zee Music due to a licensing dispute. This has left hundreds of fans without access to their favorite songs.

Zee Music, the second-largest domestic music label in India with 93.7 million YouTube subscribers, had all of its music taken off of Spotify on March 14 because the two sides “could not come to a licensing agreement,” according to Spotify.

One of the songs that was removed from Spotify last week was “Apna Bana Le,” which is from the 2022 film Bhediya and was the most streamed song on Spotify India in the two weeks prior to last Tuesday.

Just a few weeks prior, “Naatu Naatu,” from the hit-movieĀ RRR won an Oscar for “Best Original Song” becoming the first Indian movie to win the award.
