Husnah Kukundakwe is a trailblazer and an inspiration to millions of Ugandans as the 15-year-old is the only classified para-swimmer from Uganda. The young swimmer attended the British para-swimming meet in Sheffield City with only two goals on her mind; get her classification and qualify for the World Championships.
Husnah managed to get a classification of S8. S8 is for swimmers whose coordination is only mildly impacted, whose leg movement is only slightly impaired, or who have no limbs at all. Aside from this, she also managed to set her best times yet in 50m breaststroke and 100m breaststroke, ensuring her spot in the World Championships which are set to take place later this year.
“It was great to do the classification races. I felt overwhelmed and happy. Improving my seasonal best times was also a great feat but best of all was qualification to the world championships” said Husnah during an interview after landing at Entebbe International Airport.
Kukundakwe was born without her right lower arm due to a congenital limb disability.
