“There’s nothing classy about being drunk and wasted” ~ Sheila Gashumba

“It’s unladylike to get wasted and drunk” #NRGTotalAccessUG show presenter Sheila Gashumba made a remarkable statement about women and what their alcohol consumption should be.

This statement has caused quite a stir, with many people taking to social media to express their opinions on the matter. Some people agree with Gashumba, arguing that women should behave in a more refined and dignified manner, while others believe that women have the right to drink and enjoy themselves just like men.

Firstly, it is important to understand that alcohol consumption is a personal choice, and individuals have the right to drink or not drink as they please. However, it is also important to acknowledge that there are certain social expectations and norms that come with alcohol consumption.

Historically, women have been discouraged from drinking alcohol and have been judged more harshly for doing so. In many cultures, drinking has been seen as a masculine activity, and women who drink are often viewed as promiscuous or lacking in morals.

Considering the fact that we are now living in an era where equal opportunity matters, if a woman chooses to drink alcohol to have some fun and enjoy the pleasure, it shouldn’t be a social concern at all.

Furthermore, the idea that women should behave in a “ladylike” manner is outdated and perpetuates gender stereotypes. Women should be able to express themselves and enjoy their lives without being constrained by societal expectations.

It is important to recognize that alcohol consumption can have negative consequences, regardless of gender. Excessive drinking can lead to health problems, addiction, and risky behavior. Quoting from what Sheila said in her post “Alcohol is to be consumed for the moment of enjoyment not to get wasted because a lot could happen when one is drunk.”

Its also important to note that there is a thin line that separates drinking to enjoy and drinking to get wasted and it is so easy to cross that line because as one has it in mind that they are drinking to enjoy, they forget to draw the line and they end up getting wasted.

Therefore, instead of shaming women for drinking, we should focus on promoting responsible drinking habits and supporting individuals who may be struggling with alcohol addiction.
